Quentin Tarantino may be hard at working putting together his next movie, Django Unchained, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith, but let’s hope he hasn’t forgotten about that possible Inglourious Basterds prequel.
Brad Pitt and Eli Roth have already said they’re up for it. French actress Mélanie Laurent, who played Shossana Dreyfus, says she wouldn’t think twice about it:
“If Quentin wants to do that then I hope Shosanna will be in it,” Laurents told me recently from New York City. “I really hope so.”

Diane Kruger reckons starring in Inglourious Basterds made Hollywood realise she is a tough girl. The German born ex-model said her role in the Quentin Tarantino World War II film – where she plays a straight talking German actress secretly working with the Allies – has helped her avoid being typecast as a romantic interest for male leads.
Speaking about her latest role as a Bosnian taxi driver in action film Unknown, she said:
“I feel like before ‘Inglourious Basterds’, in America, they would’ve probably offered me the part played by January Jones in the film, because that’s a more obvious part for me to play. So I loved it that they offered me this. It’s cool to think they said, ‘Illegal Bosnian immigrant taxi driver – let’s get Diane Kruger!’ I’m not sure that would’ve been the obvious thing before. I think I was perceived as such a European, dainty, pretty actress.”
Diane also revealed her character – who helps co-star Liam Neeson’s character when he wakes up after an accident to realize no-one recognizes him and his identity has been stolen – has had a traumatic past.
She added to Britain’s Independent newspaper: “Obviously, this is not the kind of movie that is going to go into any deep detail. But we learn that she’s watched her entire family be assassinated. And I just thought it was interesting in a movie like this – a genre film – to have a little bit of a social background.”

Quentin Tarantino treated the cast of Inglourious Basterds to pizza, cupcakes and champagne before the Oscars.
Eli Roth confessed to E! News that he, Tarantino, Christoph Waltz and Diane Kruger were already tipsy as they worked the red carpet on the way into the awards after partying at Tarantino’s house while he acted as DJ.
Eli revealed: “At 2 o’clock, we all gathered at Quentin’s house, and we had pizza and champagne and cupcakes. Quentin deejayed and played ’70s music… that exemplifies everything about him.” He added: “It’s truly a celebration, we’re wasted – that’s the only way to do the carpet – you don’t want the filter on, you want to incinerate that filter of appropriate speech before you go down a carpet.”
Tarantino revealed: “I was DJ – all records, all vinyl. Rather than just sit around in a limo line for two hours, let’s get together for one last celebration.”

Eli Roth has claimed that Inglorious Basterds has a “strong shot” at winning a best picture Oscar. The director/actor has said that Quentin Tarantino’s WWII film is likely to win the evening’s biggest award because it was “so critically acclaimed and so well-received by fans”.
Speaking to Paste, the 37-year-old said:
“People are saying that we have a very strong shot. You can’t judge it by the Golden Globes and all this other stuff. These are the voters – the 700 voters, or however many there are, and a lot of them love the movie. Look, I think there are a lot of great pictures: Avatar, Hurt Locker, Precious. It’s incredible company to be in. And what’s really cool is to watch how Quentin is so happy to be there at the party. And he loves these other directors, so it’s really fun.”
Roth continued:
“After the SAG Awards, [Precious director] Lee Daniels came out with us and hung out. We’re always at the table next to Precious and Avatar and everyone’s friendly with each other and very excited for each other. I’m just so happy for Quentin and for Christoph Waltz and everybody.” He added: “It would be amazing if it won best picture, but the truth is, this is more than any of us ever hoped for, the fact that it’s Quentin’s highest-grossing movie, that it was so critically acclaimed and so well-received by fans, that we won the SAG Awards and Critics’ Choice. It’s beyond our wildest imaginations.”
Inglorious Basterds is nominated for eight Academy Awards, including best director and best original screenplay. The 2010 Oscars will be broadcast live on Sunday, March 7. (Source)
