American beauty: Diane Kruger's beauty secrets
Diane Kruger may have been born in Germany, but as the new face of Calvin Klein’s latest scent she embodies the classic American brand perfectly. Here, Joshua Jackson’s gf shares her beauty and fitness regimen.
What’s your morning ritual?
My first move it is to make coffee—I can’t think of starting my day without a large cup of it!
What about your morning beauty regimen?
I always wash my face with Surgras soap. Then I’ll apply Kiehl’s Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion and follow up with Roséliane d’ Uriage cream—it’s the only cream I can use on my sensitive skin.
…and for night?
I never go to bed without taking off my makeup. I use the Water Make-up Remover from Uriage, and then I follow with the same routine that I use in the morning.
How do you get ready for a night out?
I don’t like to wear too much makeup so I’ll often just do it myself. I learned all the tricks during my modeling years—like never use foundation all over, just use something to cover imperfections. I prefer to use cover sticks, like Secret Camouflage by Laura Mercier. I love red shades so I tend to go all out on lipsticks. I’m a huge fan of the
smoky eye but I also like a fresh and natural look, so it just depends on my mood. It’s the transformation that interests me, and before going out I’ll ask myself “Which woman do I want to be tonight?”
Do you have any beauty secrets?
I have fair skin and blonde hair so I have to keep in mind that some looks can make me seem washed out. But I usually go all out on lashes and eyebrows.
What about hair care?
I have fine hair and I fight with it every day! Right now I’m using the Leonor Greyl Bath Vitalizing B. I always let it dry naturally.
Do you work out?
I pretty much did ballet for more that 11 years and nothing else. I actually just got back into it about two years ago. I train with my instructor three or four times a week. I also do ab workouts and weight training to help tone my glutes. I’ve been biking lately in Paris, especially since I sold my car. So that definitely helps!
What are some of your guiltiest indulgences?
I adore Thai massages from the Ban Sabaï spa in Paris. And I treat myself to manicures and pedicures whenever I can—I’m addicted to them.
What’s your biggest beauty regret?
When I was 14 years old, I got a perm… it was terrible.
What’s your diet like?
I visit the market every weekend in Paris—just like I did when I was in L.A.— for organic and local vegetables and chicken. But because I like to travel so much, it’s a challenge to eat healthy food all of the time.
Favourite perfume?
Burberry Brit. I’ve been wearing it for so long that I put it on without thinking and don’t even notice it anymore.
The best beauty advice you’ve ever received?
It came from my mom: Less is more. I’ve always preferred the natural look.
